Youth Allowance for students

Students aged 18–24 in full-time approved study (or an apprenticeship) can claim. You need a full-time study load, and your income and — unless independent — your parents' means are tested. Students build up an income bank to earn more in some fortnights.

Study requirements

  • Approved course at an approved institution.
  • Full-time load (generally at least 75% of a normal full-time load).
  • Satisfactory progress.

Working while studying

Report earnings fortnightly. Unused parts of your income free area build up in a Student Income Bank that can offset later earnings, such as holiday work.
