Frequently asked questions
What age do I get the Age Pension in Australia?
Age Pension age is 67 for everyone born on or after 1 January 1957. Between 1 July 2017 and 1 July 2023 it rose in six-month steps from 65, and it has not increased since.
When can I lodge my claim?
Up to 13 weeks before you reach Age Pension age. Lodging inside that window means your payment can start on your eligibility date rather than the date you claimed.
Will the Age Pension age rise to 70?
No. A proposal to lift the qualifying age to 70 was abandoned in 2018 and is not law. The legislated Age Pension age remains 67.
Is the Age Pension age the same as my superannuation preservation age?
No. Preservation age — when you can access super — is 60 for everyone born after 30 June 1964, which is well before Age Pension age of 67.
Does reaching pension age mean I will be paid?
No. Reaching Age Pension age makes you qualified, but payment also depends on the residence rules and the assets and income tests.
Does this calculator store my date of birth?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to a server or stored.
